Netflix Testing $16.99 'Ultra' Plan

Netflix is reportedly mulling an update to its service plans that would add together a new tier and possibly trim the number of concurrent streams allowed on existing subscriptions.

According to Italian blog Tutto Android, Netflix is testing an "Ultra" plan for $16.99 per calendar month offering HDR video, Hard disk drive audio, and four concurrent streams.

Currently, Netflix offers three plan options:

• Basic: Scout on 1 screen at a time in Standard Definition. Download videos on one phone or tablet for $7.99 per calendar month
• Standard: Watch on two screens at a fourth dimension. HD available. Download videos on 2 phones or tablets for $10.99 per month
• Premium: Watch on 4 screens at a time. Hard disk and Ultra Hard disk drive available. Download videos on 4 phones or tablets for $13.99 per calendar month

This rumored Ultra plan could mean a decrease in in the number of concurrent streams on the Standard and Premium plans. As Phone Loonshit notes, some Italian Netflix users say promotional materials advertise reduced plans, while others continue it the same. At this point, Netflix will but say that information technology'south testing something new to see how customers react.

Last year, Netflix increased the cost of its Standard plans by $1 to $10.99 a month while Premium got a $ii price hike. Prior to that, Netflix last raised prices in the US in Oct 2022 when its Standard subscription went from $8.99 to $9.99 for new members.

Much of that coin will likely be funneled into content; Netflix has pledged to spend up to $8 billion (yes, with a B) on original content in 2022 alone.

It'due south really been a week of toll hikes for video-streaming services. DirecTV Now and PlayStation Vue will both increase their plans by $5 per calendar month.
